The largest housing agency in the state of Mississippi has a new Executive Director coming from Virginia. Justin Brooks will be heading Regional Housing Authority VIII. The organization has been in existence for over 60 years and operates HUD programs for the state's lower 14 counties with offices in Gulfport, Hattiesburg, and Moss Point.
Brooks said, "We've had a very rich tradition of being builders here in South Mississippi in response to Katrina and other events. Now we want to shift that focus from housing and assets to building and people to break the cycle of generational poverty."
For the last 17 years, Brooks has worked exclusively in housing and community development, served as the senior director at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as well as executive roles in private and public sectors.
